Deism

Deism

Deism believes in God but limits God. Deists believe that God created the world but do not believe God is involved in the world in a personal way. Rather, they see God as detached and either unwilling or unable to interfere in the affairs of mankind. Deism stops short of the supernatural and places all faith only in the natural. Therefore there is no room for miracles. All divine activities stated in the Bible are not relevant. This denial is a major problem because the Bible is the story of God’s involvement in the world. The entire Old Testament foreshadows the coming of God, the Savior, the Messiah. God cares very much about His creation and did something very personal about it. God entered the world as a baby through the birth of Jesus Christ (Incarnation/Christmas). God the Father sent Jesus His Son to die for our sins to change our ultimate destination from hell to heaven. Deism misses the grace of God and falls short of the will of God by placing too much faith in creation and not enough faith in the Creator. God has no limitations. He is infinitely powerful, all-knowing, all-present, never lacking in any way. Deism puts God in a box but God made the box and lives outside the box! The finite exists within the infinite and the natural lives within the supernatural. Denial of the infinite and supernatural is rejection of God.

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the LORD. “And my ways

are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher

than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher

than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8–9)

Does man make God or does God make man? The answer to that question brings us to the issue of God and science and the intersection of the two. Science recognizes only what can be tested and proven. Science rules out the supernatural. However, the truth is that God created the natural through His supernatural power and sustains the natural by His power. If we hope to live beyond this life, we need a supernatural intervention by God. What is most desperately needed is resurrection into eternal life and that is exactly what God has provided for everyone who believes in the life, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Deism believes God created the world, that is quite commendable and quite a feat wouldn’t you say? It is no problem for God to do it again by creating a new heaven and a new earth. That is promised in Revelation 21:1!
