Happy New Year!
If our happiness in 2019 is dependent on our circumstances, we are probably headed for something less than the ideal. We cannot control most of life. There is a saying that life is 10% how you make it and 90% how you take it. If that is true, we all face unknown and perhaps unwelcomed changes in the new year. Your happiness will depend on how you respond to the difficulties of life. Difficulties can include sins and sickness and general adversity. The question before us is this: how will we handle the 90% that we can control? Will we forgive? will we trust God? will we obey? Let’s face it, the world is looking darker for many reasons and life can be quite scary just watching the evening news. But, we have a peace from within that is not subject to change if we allow God to stand guard over our hearts in the new year. Jesus said that “in this world you will have tribulation”. Christianity does not equal exemption from trials. But, we can be overcomers if we approach life with God on our side.
If you are able to be content in any circumstance, you can live a victorious life no matter what the future may hold. We must be ready for anything that the Lord allows into our lives. That will make us stronger and enable us to be better for our spouse, better parents and better Christians. Often God will use life to help us grow spiritually and all of us need to grow don’t we? Let’s make 2019 a success by placing it in the hands of God.
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds
because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete not lacking anything.
