In The Beginning – Rulership

In The Beginning,

God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him, male and female he created them.

Genesis 1:27

Marriage has a beginning, it started with God, the Author of life. In Genesis 1, all of creation is spoken into existence by the Word of God.

After 6 days of creating, God saw all that he had made and it was very good. Many times throughout the Bible, we are reminded of this Truth.

God is our Creator. We did not come from an unexplainable “Big Bang”, we came from God and we were created for a purpose. In other words, we have accountability to God to live out our lives as married couples to please Him. Without God, we would be just like the animals, just existing. But, God set us above the animals and all the earth so that as husband and wife we would rule over the creation of God. We are given power by God to rule like God with God’s help.

One might ask why did God decide this? The answer to that question strikes at the heart of life itself. What is the purpose of life? Why are we here? It all began with marriage and if you read the last book of the Bible, you will see that it ends in marriage. Adam and Eve were created by God to rule over life as His stewards.

God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.

Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

Genesis 1:28

Every marriage is called by God to rule their home properly. Marriage is a partnership of power. Rulership includes authority and management.

Rulership is shared control over all assets (physical, financial, parental and spiritual). With God, marriage is meant to be a home directed by God. Legally, we are empowered by the law to live out our relationship possessing and nurturing our assigned gardens. All of this is included in Genesis 2. Men and women are to live out their marriages as representatives of God. That is our calling, do you see that in your marriage?

Do you see your marriage as a calling or a vocation from God?
